About the Foundation

The William BGK Harris Foundation, Inc. exists to preserve the legacy of the late Bishop Dr. William BGK Harris through philanthropy, education, and outreach. Our aim is to support global missions in Liberia and raise awareness of the needs of the Liberian community and the African diaspora.

Operating at the intersection of culture, faith, and heritage, the foundation serves as a local and global resource. We are dedicated to sharing Bishop Harris’s life, legacy, and teachings, inspiring new generations to carry forward his unfinished work, strengthen the causes he championed, and support those continuing his efforts.

The Life of Bishop Dr. William BGK Harris

Origins

Bishop Dr. William BGK Harris was born on April 11, 1953, in Suakoko, Bong County, Liberia, West Africa. He was named after William R. Tolbert, who later became president of Liberia, and after his great-grandfather. His parents were Melville Harris, an agriculturist, and Josephine Caranda Harris, a registered nurse. He was the youngest of six children.

Family

In 1980, he married Queeta Harris, whom he met at Tuskegee University while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Together, they raised seven children in Atlanta, grounding their family in Christian faith while leading a growing ministry.

Ministry and Community

He founded International Christian Fellowship Ministries on October 5, 1986, in Tucker, Georgia. His ministry served a diverse community with roots in West Africa, the United States, the Caribbean, and beyond.

A servant leader at heart, Bishop Harris cared for church members with grace and compassion and became a pillar of the Liberian community in Atlanta and abroad. For many displaced African immigrants, his leadership offered spiritual guidance grounded in an understanding of their cultural experiences.

A Lasting Legacy

He was a devoted husband, a caring father to many, a brother, a friend, and a neighbor. Alongside his ministry and community service, he authored more than 20 religious and cultural books, leaving a body of work that continues to educate and inspire.
